RAY HARRYHAUSEN OPENS THE NEW EXHIBITION - MYTHS & LEGENDS - With a few friends

Ray Harryhausen is joined by some famous faces for the opening of the
Myths & Legends Exhibition

On June 29th, the godfather of special effects, Ray Harryhausen, was honoured at the London Film Museum by opening an exhibition all about his life's work.

Myths & Legends features original creatures from his films and shows people how he was inspired to create some of the most memorable moments in film history.
His process of using stop motion animation mixed with live action became known as Dynamation and made creatures such as Medusa, Gwangi and Bubo household names.

He was joined by some famous faces including John Landis, Peter Jackson, Terry Gilliam, Rick Baker, and Randall William Cook.
The pieces will be with the museum until June 2011  before finding a permanent home at the National Media Museum in Bradford.

For the past month we were running a competition to meet Ray and the 2 lucky winners had the chance to receive their books signed by him in person. Victoria Smith and Jamie Gibbs both submitted fantastic animations (these links will take you to the London Film Museum YouTube Channel).

PLEASE NOTE - Photography is not allowed inside the exhibition.

One recent visitor has been so inspired by Ray's work that he got some of his creatures tattooed on his arm! Talk about going to extreme lengths!
