Cameraman - the life and work of jack cardiff
now showing at the bfi southbank

THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED

Cameraman illuminates a unique figure in British and international cinema: a man whose life and career are inextricably interwoven with the medium's history. Twice an Oscar-winner (after a 54-year interval), Cardiff helped elevate cinematography to an art form and dazzled with his groundbreaking vision and technical wizardry in such classics as A Matter of Life and Death, The Red Shoes, and The African Queen. In this insightful and entertaining profile, Martin Scorsese is but one among many to enthuse over the work of (according to Marilyn Monroe) 'the best cameraman in the world'.
